Christy Pope Bio 2011
From working at the famed Milk & Honey™ and Little Branch bars in New York City, to her current position as co-founder and operator of the pioneering
Cuffs & Buttons™ Cocktail Catering & Consulting company, Christy Pope has been at the forefront of the craft cocktail movement for the last decade.
Her journey began in 2001 when she became the last hire to round out the seminal staff at Milk & Honey on the Lower East Side. As part of this groundbreaking crew Christy helped cultivate the image, standards, techniques, and repertoire that the bar is recognized for today.
In addition to Milk & Honey, Christy worked at the Cellar Bar in the Bryant Park hotel where she met and teamed up with long time partner, Chad Solomon. Together they gained valuable experience working high profile events and she introduced Chad into the Milk & Honey family.
In June of 2006, Christy and Chad partnered with longtime friend and mentor Sasha Petraske, to form Cuffs & Buttons Cocktail Catering & Consulting, where she and her partners have become trailblazers in the niche industry of beverage catering and have gone on to set the gold standard for the creation of craft cocktail experiences at events worldwide.
At the same time, Christy was sharpening her consulting skills by working with the elite beverage-consulting agency, Liquid Relations. As a consultant, Christy has developed cocktails, conducted spirit, history, and technique trainings, and traveled the globe installing beverage programs for clients such as Fairmont Hotels, Sofitel Hotels, and Viceroy Hotels.
In the fall of 2008 Chad & Christy partnered with mentor Audrey Saunders to form “Here’s How!”™. The group was formed to capitalize on their collective beverage hospitality expertise. “Here’s How!” created the Tar Pit in Los Angeles, which included the fully developed supper club concept, name, design/décor, beverage menu, manuals, operational systems, and bar staff training. The Tar Pit opened in December 2009.
Christy is a graduate of the inaugural class of the esteemed Beverage Alcohol Resource-spirits and mixology program. She is recognized by her peers in the
beverage industry and presents annually at the Tales of the Cocktail and Starchefs conferences. With Cuffs & Buttons, she was nominated for Daily Candy’s “Sweetie” award in 2007, honored with Food & Wine’s “100 must tastes of 2007,” and the “Trendsetter of the Year” award in 2008 by Modern Bride. Christy has been featured in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, Robb Report, Imbibe Magazine, Food & Wine Magazine, Modern Bride, Lucky, and Gotham.
